West Side Little League District All-Stars
West Side Little League (WSLL) proudly supports and participates in the official Little League District All-Star Tournaments each summer. District All-Star Teams are a special post-season opportunity for eligible players to represent WSLL in tournament play against other leagues in our district and beyond. WSLL fields District All-Star Teams for Baseball at age levels 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, and older if league participation warrants. WSLL typically fields District All-Star Teams for Softball at age levels 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, and 12U.
This page is intended to help families understand eligibility requirements, how players and coaches are selected, and what the time commitment looks like.
Player Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for District All-Star consideration, players must meet Little League eligibility rules, including the following:
- Participation Requirement: A player must have participated in at least 60% of their team’s regular season games, unless medically excused under Little League policy.
- Players must also meet all Little League requirements related to age, residency, and/or school enrollment.
Time Commitment Expectations
District All-Stars require a significant commitment from all involved – players, coaches, and families.
Practices & Games
- Practices are typically held 3–4 days per week, and may increase to 5 days per week as tournament play approaches.
- District tournament play typically begins in late June or early July.
Attendance Expectations
Unless otherwise approved by the League or the Team Manager:
- Players are expected to attend all practices and games without exception
- Families should carefully consider summer schedules, vacations, camps, and other conflicts before accepting a roster spot
District teams need consistent attendance to prepare properly and compete at the tournament level.
Selecting District All-Star Coaches
WSLL District team managers and coaches are selected based on league needs and availability. District team coaching roles require:
- Strong knowledge of baseball and player development
- Excellent communication and sportsmanship
- Willingness to commit substantial time to practices and tournament games
- A team-first approach consistent with Little League and WSLL standards
How Players Are Identified and Selected
1) “Players to Watch” Nominations (Mid-Season)
About halfway through the season, WSLL coaches submit a list of “players to watch” for District All-Star consideration. This is intended to:
- Encourage early communication and planning
- Inform other division coaches of player ability and to afford the opportunity to assess player in live game situations
- Help coordinate the end-of-season selection process
Important:
- Being identified as a “player to watch” is not a guarantee of District team nomination.
- Coaches may formally withdraw that nomination later in the season if circumstances change.
2) Evaluations / Tryouts (If Needed)
WSLL may hold evaluations to assist with selections at any age level, depending on the number of eligible nominees and available roster spots.
- Evaluations may or may not occur each year
- Evaluations are not required by WSLL, but they may be used when helpful
- If held, evaluations are intended to support fair, consistent decision-making
3) Division Coach Voting and Final Roster Selection
After nominations (and evaluations if held), Division coaches meet to review nominees and discuss All-Star team needs.
The formal selection process is:
- Division coaches vote to select ten (10) players for the District team roster
- The remaining roster spots (if any) are selected by the District team manager
This process helps balance input from the division coaching group while allowing the team manager to complete the roster based on team needs, positional coverage, and tournament strategy.
Required Documentation for Tournament Play
Little League requires documentation to verify eligibility. If a player is selected, families must provide:
- A copy of the player’s birth certificate, and
- One of the following:
- Little League School Enrollment Form, or
- Three (3) proofs of residency within the WSLL boundary (as defined by Little League rules)
WSLL will provide families with details and acceptable document types if selected.
Additional Costs for District Play
There is an additional cost for District Team participation to help cover expenses such as:
- All-Star uniforms
- Tournament umpire fees and other required tournament expenses
Cost details will be shared with families once teams are finalized.
Important Notes About Voluntary Participation
Participation on a District All-Star team is voluntary. Families should understand that:
- Tournament play may involve additional travel beyond Districts, depending on team advancement. The District tournament winner advances to the Sectional tournament, followed by States, then Regionals, and ultimately the Little League World Series should the team continue to advance.
- All-Star Tournament play may follow different mandatory/minimum playing time rules than the regular season
- Coaches will make decisions regarding lineups, positions, and playing time based on team needs and tournament strategy
If selected, a player’s family will be required to agree to respect and accept all coaching decisions related to lineups, roles, and playing time.
Thank You to Our Families
